Cleaning & Care Guide
MagPanel is designed to last — a little routine care keeps every finish looking exactly as it did on the day of installation. Follow the guidance for your specific finish type below.
Less is more
A barely damp microfibre cloth handles almost every situation. Excess moisture is the main cause of panel damage — never saturate.
No abrasives, ever
Steel wool, scouring pads, and abrasive cleaners damage all three finishes permanently. Use only soft cloths or microfibre.
Test before applying
If using any cleaning product for the first time, test on a hidden panel or offcut before applying to a visible surface.
Act quickly on spills
Blot liquid spills immediately — don't rub. The faster you act, the less likely a permanent mark is to form.
Step-by-step
Care by finish type
Each MagPanel finish is made from a different material. Follow the guide for the specific finish you have installed.
Natural Wood
Real wood veneer — warm, with natural grain character. The most moisture-sensitive of the three finishes. Treat it like quality timber furniture.
Routine cleaning
- 1Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth to dust along the grain direction. Do not wipe against the grain.
- 2For light marks, use a microfibre cloth wrung out to barely damp. Wipe lightly in the direction of the grain.
- 3Immediately follow with a dry cloth to remove any residual moisture. Never let water sit on the surface.
- 4For stubborn marks, apply a small amount of furniture-grade wood soap on a damp cloth, wipe along the grain, then dry immediately.
Avoid — Natural Wood
- Wet cloths or excess water of any kind
- Steam cleaners or pressure washers
- Bleach, ammonia, or acid-based cleaners
- Solvent-based cleaners or turpentine
- Abrasive pads, cloths, or powders
- Wiping against the grain direction
Technical Wood
High-resolution printed veneer on a stable substrate — consistent tone and more durable than natural veneer. Handles routine cleaning well.
Routine cleaning
- 1Dust with a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush, working top to bottom.
- 2For marks or fingerprints, wipe with a slightly damp microfibre cloth in the direction of the panel.
- 3For more stubborn marks, apply a small amount of mild all-purpose household cleaner to the cloth (not the panel) and wipe gently.
- 4Finish with a clean dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture.
Avoid — Technical Wood
- Excessive water or soaking
- Steam cleaners
- Bleach or chlorine-based products
- Abrasive sponges or scouring pads
- Strong solvent-based degreasers
- Applying cleaner directly to the panel surface
Foil
Foil-wrapped for bold colour and smooth, wipe-clean surfaces. The most moisture-tolerant of the three finishes — easy day-to-day maintenance.
Routine cleaning
- 1Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Most marks — including fingerprints and dust — lift easily.
- 2For grease marks, add a drop of mild dish soap to a damp cloth, wipe the affected area, then rinse the cloth and wipe again with clean water.
- 3Dry with a clean cloth after cleaning to prevent water marks on glossy colours.
- 4For deep-clean maintenance, use a mild all-purpose spray cleaner (no bleach). Apply to the cloth — never spray directly onto the panel or seams.
Avoid — Foil
- Solvent-based cleaners (acetone, turpentine, nail-polish remover)
- Bleach or chlorine-based products
- Abrasive pads or nylon scourers
- Sharp objects near the surface
- Spraying cleaner directly onto seams or edges
- Peeling or picking at edges if they lift

Furniture-grade wood soap — for Natural Wood only. Apply with a damp cloth, wipe along the grain, dry immediately
Mild all-purpose household spray — bleach-free. Technical Wood and Foil only; apply to cloth, never directly to panel
Soft-bristle brush — for dusting textured or grooved areas where a cloth can't reach easily
Touch-up paint — Magnat-supplied touch-up for minor surface chips or exposed substrate edges. Contact us for your finish
Never use
Bleach or chlorine-based cleaners — will bleach and lift any finish permanently
Ammonia-based products — degrades adhesive bonds and surface finishes over time
Solvent-based cleaners (acetone, turpentine, nail-polish remover) — dissolves foil and printed veneer layers
Abrasive sponges, steel wool, or scouring pads — scratches all three finishes permanently; no exceptions
Steam cleaners — excessive heat and moisture damages the substrate and causes delamination
Pressure washers or hoses — panels are not waterproof; water ingress causes warping and delamination
Spray products applied directly to the panel — liquid can enter seams and edges; always apply to the cloth first

How to treat common marks
Act quickly — most marks are easier to remove before they dry. Blot; never rub.

Routine maintenance
A simple schedule
Consistent light maintenance prevents build-up and keeps your panels looking new for years.
Weekly
Light dust
- Dry microfibre cloth or soft-bristle brush
- Work top to bottom across all panels
- Pay attention to grooves and edges where dust settles
- Natural Wood: always wipe along the grain
Monthly
Wipe down
- Slightly damp microfibre cloth, all panels
- Natural Wood: dry immediately after wiping
- Technical Wood & Foil: mild cleaner if needed
- Inspect for any chips, edge lift, or marks
Quarterly
Full inspection
- Check adhesion and fixings — gently press any panels that feel loose
- Touch up any chips with Magnat touch-up paint
- Inspect reveal strips and finishing trims
- Contact us for replacement panels if damage is extensive
Prevention
Environmental considerations
Where and how panels are installed has a direct impact on how easily they clean and how long they last.
Humidity & moisture
MagPanel is not designed for high-humidity or wet areas. Do not install in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or any space where water may splash directly onto panels. Natural Wood veneer is especially sensitive to prolonged humidity — it can cause warping or delamination over time.
Rooms that experience seasonal humidity changes benefit from consistent climate control. A relative humidity of 40–60% and temperature of 18–25°C is ideal for long-term panel stability.
Direct sunlight
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight causes fading on all three finishes — most noticeably on Natural Wood and certain Foil colours. Use window treatments (blinds or UV-filtering film) on windows directly opposite panelled walls where strong afternoon sun is a regular factor.
Touch-up and minor repairs
Minor chips and surface scratches can be addressed with Magnat touch-up products, available in all standard finishes. For edge lifting or adhesion failures, contact us before attempting a DIY repair — the correct approach varies by installation type and panel generation.
Replacement panels for discontinued finishes may be subject to lead times. We recommend keeping 5–10% of your original panel order as spares.
